Valensa Launches O2B™ Peroxidation Blocker Technology at Vitafoods 2006

Valensa International announced that it has introduced a new botanically-based stabilization system for naturally-derived ingredients for the nutraceutical, functional food and cosmeceuticals markets. Called the O2B™ Peroxidation Blocker, this new system is 100% natural, non-GMO and is designed to protect sensitive oils – particularly highly unsaturated oils that include those derived from fish and botanicals – from manufacture to consumption. The O2B Peroxidation Blocker is a synergistic, proprietary formulation of powerful natural compounds including astaxanthin, phenolic antioxidants and natural tocopherols. Initially, the O2B Peroxidation Blocker system will be featured in Valensa’s own proprietary branded products to increase quality and ultimate efficacy. The company has said that it will be selling the O2B Peroxidation Blocker system as a standalone processing aid to other companies manufacturing nutraceuticals, functional foods and cosmeceuticals.

According to Dr, Rudi Moerck, President of Valensa, protection of sensitive oils when they are extracted from botanicals is one of the key elements of product quality and ultimately of efficacy. "Degradation and rancidity are facts of life when it comes to the production of highly unsaturated oils. When oxidation occurs the results can only be negative – either the product quality or even the health of the individual taking that degraded compound can suffer," he said. The O2B Peroxidation Blocker system was on display for the first time at Vitafoods 2006 in Geneva, Switzerland. According to Valensa, it will extend shelf life and product viability. As an added benefit, the O2B Peroxidation Blocker will add antioxidant functionality to any product that incorporates it.
